Milwaukee Brewers @ Red Sox Recap
Monday, May 19, 2008 at 9:43 am ET

Getty ImagesA weekend sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers, which included two wins in one day, was just what the doctor ordered for the Boston Red Sox.

However, once again the pitching was a bit on the shaky side with a total of 16 runs conceded in 27 innings of baseball. Staff ace Josh Beckett allowed six earned runs on six hits in seven innings of work. In addition, he conceded four dingers, which is quite worrisome, but his nine whiffs and one walk kind of watered down the lasting impact of the home run derby.

On the offensive side of the ball, designated hitter David Ortiz was 5-for-10 (.500) with three home runs, eight RBIs and five runs scored. He is starting to resemble the “Big Papi” of old and making some sick contact on good pitches.

Third baseman Mike Lowell was 3-for-8 (.375) with one home run, four RBIs and three runs scored. His home run during Saturday’s nightcap was a shot of pure power. He’s starting to get back into a routine of solid swings. It’s a very comforting site.

First baseman Kevin Youkilis was 6-for-13 (.462) with one home run, three RBIs and three runs scored.

Overall, this will be one of the few times you won’t see me cry and whine over how bad they played. They looked phenomenal, and hopefully this is the start to a nice winning streak. Viva la Lowrie!
