It’s Tippett’s Time
Patriots Linebacker Enshrined In Hall Of Fame

Today is Andre Tippett’s induction into the Pro Football Hal of Fame in Canton Ohio. The. It was a long time coming for the former Patriots linebacker. Tippett was selected by the Patriots in the second round of the 1982 NFL Draft. He went on to play 12 seasons for New England.

At the time of his retirement Tippett held team records for most career sacks (100), sacks in a single season (18.5) and fumble recoveries (17).

Tippett was honored to be elected into the Hall.

“Coach [Bill Belichick] had me come in [team meeting]. I wanted everyone in the organization to be there.” Tippett said of sharing the moment with the team. “It was awesome, it got a little bit emotional and I’m starting to become an emotional wreck a little bit because it’s here.”

Bill Belichick confirmed the meeting, and shared why it was important for the organization to recognized one of it’s past players.

“We let him know about our appreciation for what he has done and congratulated him on his selection and soon-to-be induction into the National Football League Hall of Fame this weekend,” Belichick said.

“Although I never coached Andre I saw a lot of him from my perspective as the defensive coordinator of the Giants. I watched him when he played for the Patriots and of course that was an era of a lot of great linebackers.”

Tippett joins other great legends being enshrined in the Hall today:

Defensive end Fred Dean, cornerback Darrell Green, wide receiver Art Monk, cornerback Emmitt Thomas, Tippett, and tackle Gary Zimmerman.
