Bad show
Monday, October 6, 2008 at 8:26 pm ET

Tough show back from the weekend. I said in our open,"Should Terry Francona be second guessed after game four?" Of course, I met to say game three. I noticed with minutes to go before the start of the show so we had to record it again. I know, our marketing message is,"always live never scripted." We should add except for the opens. We have to pre-pro (tv term for pre production) our opens for technical and staging reasons.

Then I said that Kotsay could play fourth. Did I mean fourth base? I am an idiot. Of course, I meant play first.

I blame it on staying up late to watch the Sox lose in extra innings to the Angels. When I don’t get sleep I do say dumb things and become very grumpy.

I am going to take a nap now.

   Okay, now I’m up.

Isn’t Troy Brown great? Some in the media feel Troy is not going make it as an analyst. Yes, he can be a soft talker but he knows it and is working on his television game the same way he worked on his on field game. He watches tape, listens to suggestions and works on his delivery. Don’t bet against this guy. He already proved everybody wrong once. Troy will be on our show every Monday and Wednesday during the football seaosn.

Its amazing the minute details broadcasters dwell on when the average viewer doesn’t blink an eye if you gaff (CNN headline: TANGUAY GAFFS DURING SPORTS TONIGHT PROMO, PALIN WINS) Plus Tanger, I think you beat up on yourself too much- a little too self-deprecating, but that’s understandable when you’re flanked by Mike “glass-half shattered” Felger and Greg “I’ll argue with you just to defend my job like a Wall St. broker” Dickerson. Give yourself credit, every ship needs its anchor; you can mess up all you want because is no Sports Tonight without Gary Tanguay AMEN.

Anyway I think you’re dead-on about Troy Brown. He’s already transitioning to informed analyst faster than anyone anticipated, and signing him to CSNST on the heels of retiring from an illustrious career is the buzz of the town. The Pats insight he provided his first day on the show was well-expressed, and frankly information that people aren’t privy to outside the locker room. He’s a local legend for life, and I’m really excited to hear he’s applying the same work ethic on the show as he did for 14 seasons on the field.

This isn’t meant to be a plug, but if fans are looking for an arena besides this site to dish on Sports Tonight and Boston teams in general, check out my lameo website that is kind of solely dedicated to those two topics. I do what I can to spread the word out here in LA!

Tanger, how did you guys miss this one.
Josh Beckett thru 27 pitches in 27 minutes. (Approx.)
Veritek, maybe in need of national exposure, used every method to slow the game with needless trips to the mound, and multiple signs that Beckett shook off. This was preposterous for it denied Beckett any semblance of gaining a rhythm in the all important first inning
And it showed, as Beckett was all over the place.
For reference’s sake, Lester in the next game was not bothered by this foolishness, as he did not allow a runner to reach 2nd base.
Now go back to when both pitchers were made aware of working more quickly in a game.
Beckett improved and won 20 games. Lester improved, and is arguable the ace of the staff.
Now where were Francona and Farrell during this fiasco.
If they love Veritek so much, why don’t they teach him the proper footwork to throw a runner out at second. He doesn’t stand a prayer as his 17% will attest to. And while I”m at it, Reggie Willits has Elsbury like speed so why is Veritek chasing him down. Dumb play, he had Youkalis and I’m almost certain Kotsay came from 1st to cover the plate, if perchance Willets got by him when he threw to Youk. which was the proper play. More national coverage for Veritek.
