| Great Line. Great Shirt. | Thursday, June 11, 2009 |
Felger made fun of my Tommy Bahama shirt. I don’t think this guy should giving anybody fashion tips. His style is disco meets Brooks Brothers.
How could anybody not like Tommy Bahama? It’s a great shirt.
GREAT LINE by Chris Gasper when I told him not to be a fan and he said, "That’s sounds odd Gary coming from you." That is why he will be back on the show. We like that sort of thing.
We had a good time doing the head to head segment in the C block. Felger and I both agree it would be better if both of us could give our opinion on every topic as oppose to take turns. What do you think?
Per the suggestion of my lovely wife, I am tweeting now @Gary_Tanguay.
| Papelbon, Poker and Patriots | Wednesday, June 10, 2009 |
I could not wait to give it to Papelbon at Fenway today. When I started to give him a hard time for falling asleep in the bullpen he was ready with an excuse. He said he was suffering from food poisioning that he picked up at Varitek and Wakefield’s charity poker tournament.
It was hard not to believe him after he went into great detail about his illness. Too much information if you know what I mean.
At the poker tournament he had to go all in and make a mad dash to the men’s room. He never returned to a table. OK Cinco. We believe you.
I wasn’t surprised Vince showed up at Patriot’s Mini-Camp. It isn’t in his nature to hold out. Unfortunately, this strategy will not get him the big day he wants.
| The Wilfork Watch | Tuesday, June 9, 2009 |
Felger, Bert Breer and I continued to talk about Vince Wilfork during the commercial breaks. I told them VInce should hold out of mini-camp if he is going to be consistent and dig his heels in during the final year of his contract.
The problem is Vince is not the hold out type. He is one of the most unselfhish athletes I have ever met. In my opinion, tonight his agent is telling him to hold out and Vince is thinking he should show up for work. Why? Because even though Vince wants a big raise he is a company guy and he would feel guilty that his fellow Pats are going through MANDATORY mini-camp a few miles from his house.
With contract hold outs the player has to be ready to go all the way, like Deon Branch did, or not bring it up to the media at all. If Vince shows up tomorrow he will be playing it somewhere in the middle and that will not work.
The Patriots are very smart and in the end I feel they will pay Vince a reasonable salary. Remember, the Pats have been consistently competitive for a reason. They never get themselves in salary cap trouble. Please remember, the Patriots can franchise VInce at the end of this year and maintain his services for another season while paying him about six million dollars. At that point Vince will face a tough decision… does he hold out for the season or does he take the franchise tag? I think he and Patriots will agree to a deal at that point and time but the process could get ugly. However, in the endthe Pats will get their pro bowl nose tackle for years to come and Vince will deservedly cash in.
| I Talked to Ainge…Kind Of | Friday, June 5, 2009 |
It was great to have the 8th graders from Marshwood High School in to tour the studios today. I was actually able to hold their attention for thirty minutes or so. I was amazed. They must have been tired or experiencing food coma.
Got a message from Danny Ainge regarding the foolish rumor that said Rondo and Ray were going to PHX. It went like this…."Hi Gary. It’s Danny. As far as that rumor goes______________________________________________________ to PHX.
The majority of his message dropped out. Later, I connected with him.
There is no way the Celtics should trade Ray and certainly not Rondo. Ray can still help this team win next year. He does not want to leave. If KG was healthy we would be talking repeat. Why would they want to break up this team? I don’t care if Ray only has one year left.
Kind of slow today. That’s all I have.
| Felger’s Pink Shirt | Thursday, June 4, 2009 |
Felger gives me a hard time about my glasses but what about his hot pink shirt? Wow! He looked like a flamingo dancer for hire.
I can relate to David Ortiz blaming his poor hitting on his eyes. That’s why I have ditched the contacts for glasses. I kept messing up so much I blamed it on my vision. I know, now what’s my excuse.
Special thanks to Bill "Moose" Messina for filling in for Felger and me the other day when Vince Wilfork spoke about his contract situation. Vince doesn’t like Felger so we never let him interview Vince and I had a first grade concert to go to. My daughter and her peeps did a mean "Frog On a Log."
A big shout out to my nephew Noah Tanguay Collins who is now driving on the mean streets of Rumford, Maine. He has no experience driving a car but plenty of experience driving his parents crazy. Keep it between the lines Noah and don’t follow in my footsteps and lose your learners permit. If you must know, I was caught going 45 in a 35 on Roxbury Road in Mexico, Maine in my muscle car, a 1972 Dodge Valiant.
Just call me WILD THING.
| Sorry, the Dog Ate My Password | Wednesday, June 3, 2009 |
Some of you may have been wondering, " where the heck is Tanguay?" Okay, maybe you weren’t. However, I feel the need to explain my six week absense from Tanguay’s Take. For about two weeks I got lazy. I mailed it in.
But then, after playing golf with Donny Marshall and Tim Welsh I was motivated to write about my round with these two single digit golfers. When I tried to blog about Donny’s stellar, perfectly coordinated golfing outfit I discovered my blog could not be saved on our website. Anyway, four weeks later and after having NASA consult on the matter I am back on the blog.
Let’s catch up, shall we?
During our golf outing at Wayland Country Club Donny had a gallery. Man, the guy can play. The UConn Husky club covers were a bit much though. I am surprised he didn’t have a picture of Coach Calhoun on his golf bag. Tim can play too. He is a nine and Donny is a two. Without question, the two best dressed golfers to ever set foot on Wayland.
It was great to have Greg back in…for a night. No seriously, Dickerson always bring life to the station. Felger comes work, grunts to say hello and then hides behind his office door. Greg, stops and chats with everyone in the place. I mean everyone. He claims to be handling being a first time parent. But, I can tell it is kicking the daylights out of him just like it did the rest of us.
| Golf and Mountain Dew | Friday, May 29, 2009 |
A few nuggets after playing golf with Donny Marshall and Tim Welsh…
Donny had his own gallery at Wayland Country Club. He teed off number 1 with a 300 yard drive.
Tim and Donny were the best dressed golfers I have ever played with.
D-Marsh was dressed in UConn colors with Husky head covers. Tim was GQ as to be expected. I was smart enough not to wear jeans. That’s about all I can say for my wardrobe.
Glen, the grounds keeper at Wayland told me he was going to cut down I tree hit. Glen, it’s still up last time I checked. What’s the deal?
Donny is a 2 and Tim is a 10. I don’t have a handicap. Surprised?
If some of you have heard me clear my throat on the air that is because I have been diagnosed with acid reflux. When I eat certain foods I have to clear my throat constantly.
So I have to avoid some of my favorite foods like chips and salsa, steak and coffee. Right now I am eating oatmeal, pasta and yogurt. Whoopee.
Sometimes I need that little caffeine boost for a post game show and I cannot have my usual cup of coffee. Now, I have turned to Mountain Dew. I do not know how anyone can drink this stuff. It is so sweet. Ughhhh! The diet is okay. I even have to mix that with water in order to drink it.
