| Wallace in Dallas; I Still Think He Signs With C’s | Tuesday, June 30, 2009 |
More news on Rasheed Wallace. While he has great interest Boston, he is visiting Dallas today. I still think he wears green because of KG. Make sure to check out the discussion we had last night on The Late Edition of Sports Tonight.
| Rasheed in Green | Monday, June 29, 2009 |
As we told you last week on Sports Tonight, the Celtics would love to get Rasheed Wallace to come off the bench this year. As we grow closer to the post July 1st NBA free agent signing period the chances of Rasheed wearing green this coming season are very good.
He is good friends with Kevin Garnett and he has a great interest in coming here.
My gut tells me Rasheed Wallace will become a Celtic soon.
| Remembring Uncle Nelly | Thursday, June 25, 2009 |
My sister Marie called this morning and told me that my Uncle Nelson had passed away in Rumford, Maine at the age of 86. As my Aunt Dodie said we should be thankful for those years because this is a man that survived World War II, three heart attacks, Bucky Dent and Ray Hamilton’s head slap.
He was a straight shooter, as Irish as the come and more importantly a huge fan of mine. The great thing about having a relative in your audience is no matter what you say they always agree with you. He would tell me time and time again that he always listened to me and never to the "other guy."
My favorite story involving Uncle Nelly happened during the 1977 Super Bowl when the Dallas Cowboys beat the Denver Broncos. My dad, Uncle Nelly and I were watching the game at my Uncle Jim’s house. Now, for some reason Uncle Nelly disliked anything about Texas. I think he met a guy from Dallas when he was in the service who was a jerk. That was enough for him. Needless to say, he was not too thrilled when I started cheering for Roger Staubach and the Cowboys. While growing up a Patriot fan I was also a big fan of Roger the Dodger.
Every time I would cheer my uncle’s blood pressure rose. My Uncle Jim thought this was hillarious because he knew there was no way his brother was going to take his frustration out on an twelve year old kid. You can get away with a lot of stuff before you become a teenager.
| Ainge: “I Expect Current Roster to Be Back” | Tuesday, June 23, 2009 |
I just spoke with Danny Ainge and he told me that "he expected the current roster to be back". Ainge also told me that he doesn’t expect to trade up for a high draft pick as the team needs veterans and not youth. He would not make a deal that would hurt the title chances this season. Continue to follow the Celtics as they prepare for Thursday’s NBA Draft on my Twitter page @Gary_Tanguay, or right here on CSNNE.com. Danny also commented on the most recent trade rumor with the Detroit Pistons.
Make sure to tune-in on Thursday at 6:30 for Mohegan Sun’s Sports Tonight with reports from Greg Dickerson at Celtics HQ and Boston Globe writer Marc Spears. During the draft, log on to CSNNE.com for a special edition of Celtics Stuff Live. Justin Poulin and The Duke will take your calls and questions from our "Live Chat", along with talking to experts from around the country throughout the night.
| Lights, Camera, Action! | Wednesday, June 17, 2009 |
Tomorrow (Thursday) I will be heading back to the set of Seriel Buddies, a Maria Menounous produced and Kevin Undergaro directed dark comedy. This time it’s all about close ups. Better have plenty of pancake powder.
I will have to really know my lines. The first day of shooting we only performed for wide shots. They did not record our audio. It didn’t matter though. I was still nervous as hell. Funny, TV no problem… but movies….I become a scared school boy.
Donny Marshall will be stopping by. No doubt to see Maria and to see what the caterer has made for lunch.
| Rip Van Felger | Tuesday, June 16, 2009 |
Just prior to the show, I walked into the studio and found Michael Felger, my esteemed co-host, dead asleep in his chair in the Mohegan Sun Skybox.
Remember when your Dad would fall asleep after the 6 o’clock news with his chin his chest while snoring up a storm? That was Felger.
Josh, our intern from Michigan was in the studio and informed me he had been out cold for a half an hour. What a role model, Felger.
The only other person to fall asleep in that chair was Vince Wilfork. So Felger, you are in good company.
It was the only peace and quiet we have had here all day
| Yes, Bank Signs | Monday, June 15, 2009 |
On the 6:30 show I mentioned my bank sign selling days. It is true, I was a bank sign salesmen in my 20’s. I was also working weekends at WEEI when it was on 590.
However, I did not refer to my product line as bank signs. It was termed visual merchandising by the owner of my company, the legendary Maurice F. Blouin.
Maury was old school. He looked like the guy on the monopoly board. He never carried credit cards. He only used cash. How about this…her referred to assistants as "girls," and he made female applicants turned completely around before they sat down for the interview. WOW!
Anyway, I was in Kalamazoo, Michigan meeting with one of my biggest clients, First of America Bank. I sold them a lot of bank signs. I was bored so I drove to Grand Rapids to see the Hoops play Rockford in a key CBA tilt. Cazzie Russell was the coach of the Hoops and Phil Jackson coached Rockford. And now the guy is tied with Red for coaching titles.
I still don’t put Phil in the same class with Red who won 16 titles total.
Telling girls that I sold bank signs was not as good a line as, "Hey, I am on TV or the radio." But, I sure made a lot more money.
However, love for the job wins out of money any day.
